Chaney Recognized as Foundation of the Year for 2019

The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) recently honored the Chaney Enterprises Foundation (now ChaneyCares) as “Foundation of the Year” during the 2019 Celebration of Philanthropy Awards.

The nomination, submitted by the Anne Arundel Community College Foundation, noted how the Chaney Foundation “exemplifies the definition of philanthropy by generously supporting a plethora of local nonprofits in the communities where the company does business and where the Chaney family and company employees live.”

Recent Chaney Foundation contributions were made to Annapolis Green, Arundel Lodge, Inc., The Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County, Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB), the Oyster Recovery Partnership, and more than 40 other community nonprofits.

“Their most recent grant to support the construction of the Clauson Center for Innovation and Skilled Trades at Anne Arundel Community College will train approximately 950 students per year, by its third year of operation, working to address the shortage of trade workers in our community,” said Vollie Melson, executive director, Anne Arundel Community College Foundation.

Anne Arundel Community College plans to launch six inaugural programs when the Clauson Center opens in 2021: electrical, forklift operator, HVAC, plumbing, welding and finished carpentry.

The Chaney Foundation also funds endowments for scholarships in construction, real estate, and other fields of study affiliated with the company’s industries at four colleges, including Anne Arundel Community College.

A committee of past Celebration of Philanthropy Award winners selects the award recipients. The awards were presented during the CFAAC’s annual Celebration of Philanthropy Awards Luncheon at the BWI Marriott Hotel.
